What is cupping?
Cupping is an ancient healing technique. The therapist places cups (glass, silicone or plastic) on different parts of your body. Inside the cup, suction is created.
How does cupping work?
Suction breaks tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin. Your body treats the area where the suction cups have been placed like an injury. It sends more blood to the area to stimulate the natural healing process. Some people believe that cupping cleanses pores and releases toxins.
What does cupping treat?
People mostly use cupping to relieve pain-causing conditions. Some say it also helps with chronic health problems. The suction cup can ease symptoms:
- Arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis.
- Back pain, pain in the neck and shoulder.
- Carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Headaches and migraines.
- High blood pressure (hypertension).
