The Five Elements theory is a system of medicine based on understanding natural laws and how keeping them in balance maintains good physical and emotional health. Balance can be achieved through the mobilization of the internal forces of our organism for self-healing.  Classical Acupuncture of the Five Elements, an ancient therapeutic method dating back more than two thousand years, works by identifying the cause of a problem, and enhancing this weakness, supporting the physical functioning of the organism as a whole. The ultimate goal is to relieve symptoms and promote well-being and longevity in the patient. Classical acupuncture of the Five Elements is used also, as a preventive medicine as it is particularly effective in dealing with emotional issues or stress, before these lead to a more serious illness.

How it works

In classic Acupuncture of the Five Elements, the physical laws are understood as the Five Elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. We can observe these forces functioning in nature as well as in our bodies. These elements are connected to different organs, sensations, emotions, times of day, and general strengths and weaknesses. Observing the five elements within us, we can understand the root of imbalance and how it affects the functioning of our physical and emotional health. The diagnosis involves the identification of the element that is in imbalance and therefore disrupts the cycle of the five elements, leading to symptoms of ill health. The treatment lies in correcting this imbalance and restoring a good quality of life.

The treatment

Balancing the elements is achieved by introducing thin, sterile and disposable needles just below the surface of the skin. Specific points will be identified along energy channels that directly affect the physiological and emotional reactions of the body. The placement of the needles in the appropriate places, gradually removes any obstacle and restores the free flow of energy of the body, helping the body to regain its balance.  When indicated, these points will be heated by the burning  of the herb called Moxa (Artemisia).
